Capture Your Grief, Day 5

Today's topic: Memorial

Here is our urn for Weston's ashes. It does not actually contain his ashes yet, because we just received it in the mail last night. The remainder of Weston's ashes are still at the funeral home. I am in the middle of a three-day grief conference for bereaved parents (a godsend!), so I will not have a chance to put the ashes in the urn until next week.

It might be hard to tell from the picture, but the sculpture is a mother and father holding a baby. We got Caroline a stuffed teddy bear with angel wings to hold some of Weston's ashes as well. My goal is to install a fireplace mantel this fall as a display area for this beautiful urn. Then Weston will always be in the heart of our home.

This second photograph is from Weston's memorial service. There are two blankets in the middle: the blue one on the bottom was knitted by a family friend, and the top blanket with the "W" was a gift from a high school friend. Both were given to us before Weston died. The large framed photograph on the left is the enlarged picture of Weston's hands in mine that I took after he died. I am not feeling God's presence these days, so the cross in the background is a good reminder that God is still with me.
