Capture Your Grief, Day 4

Today's topic: treasured item

This is a quilt my sister put together for Weston. When Weston was in the NICU, he was in an isolette. Volunteers made blankets to drape over the isolettes to make the babies' environments darker and quieter, so they could sleep better. I love and treasure all of the blankets Weston had in the NICU but also wanted something personal from my loved ones.

My sister asked people to send her squares for the quilt. We received squares from all kinds of people, including friends I had not seen in over ten years. Every piece of fabric has a beautiful story behind it.

The intention was for people to send prayers or blessings with the squares, so Weston would literally be covered in prayers and positive thoughts. He died before the quilt was finished.

This quilt will always be a reminder of the love that so many people have for Weston, even though most never met him.

  1. Hi Shauna,

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know I'm thinking about you. I was able to catch up on a little of your blog today. It's heart-wrenching, but it's wonderful that you are able to share your feelings so honestly. Keep being kind to yourself, just as you strive to be kind and take care of the rest of your family.

    Love you lots!
